Pennsylvania will require labels on AI-generated ads

Image
On Thursday, Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro signed the Artificial Intelligence Deceptive Advertising Act into law, requiring disclosures on AI-generated ads. The law requires any ad - whether it's a still image, video, audio, or text - that "has been significantly modified or generated by artificial intelligence" to include a label in the same format as the ad itself. That applies to TV commercials from multi-billion-dollar companies , as well as restaurants' ugly, crowded flyers about their wing specials. Pennsylvania is one of the first states to require disclosures on AI content. And it requires those labels regardless of where an ad … Read the full story at The Verge. source https://www.theverge.com/ai-artificial-intelligence/1018187/pennsylvania-ai-deceptive-advertising-act

The iPhone Duo should have been an iPad

Image
We gave the iPhone Duo a 7 /10 . But that wasn't always the score we planned, and it might not be the right score forever. Such are the challenges of reviewing - and assessing - a big, new idea about the most popular smartphone in history. On this episode of The Vergecast , David and Nilay debate whether the Duo deserved the score it got, and try to work through how this device might change over time. Is the outer screen, as Daring Fireball's John Gruber suggested, the worst iPhone ever ? Would it be a better product if it started as an iPad rather than an iPhone? Would we feel differently about this thing if it were simply called the iPad Du … Read the full story at The Verge. source https://www.theverge.com/podcast/1017447/iphone-duo-ipad-review-score-vergecast

The first broken iPhone Duos are here

Image
The iPhone Duo officially goes on sale today, but a few units already have broken screens. According to posts about the affected units on Reddit, the issue appears to be happening at a similar spot on all of them: Some kind of problem shows up on the inner screen along the hinge and a strange bright line (or lines) across the right side of the display. Here's how one user in Australia described what happened to their phone: Had my iPhone Duo for about six hours and had probably opened it fewer than 20 times. I was showing it to a friend, and as I opened it, I felt something around the internal hinge, underneath the screen. As I cont … Read the full story at The Verge. source https://www.theverge.com/tech/1017623/iphone-duo-broken-cracked-screen

Chrome will now show a warning before you visit ‘suspicious’ sites

Image
If you know for sure that a website flagged as suspicious is actually safe, you can mark it as such. | Image: Google Google is launching a new browser safety feature for Chrome that aims to keep you better informed about how malicious a website might be before you open it. The new suspicious site warnings, available when Chrome's Enhanced Protection is on, build on a similar two-stage system introduced for Chrome file downloads in 2024 , which provides visually different notifications for blocked files based on whether they're determined to be "suspicious" or "dangerous." For the Chrome site warnings, the feature will flag a website as suspicious if it detects that it has similar qualities to other sites associated with phishing, malware, and scams.
